IED Madrid students return to this essential event with fanzines, publications, stickers, calendars, posters and other student creations
As every year in April, one of the most desired events for both those who love and those who dedicate to design returns to La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Libros Mutantes. Madrid Art Book Fair!
From today until next Sunday (25 to 27 April), this new edition of the city's most important independent publishing fair returns with more than 80 exhibitors, including IED Madrid.
This year, Libros Mutantes is vindicating the tangible against digital consumption -paper versus screen; cassette versus Spotify-, functioning once again as a meeting point for publishers, artists and designers who are committed to physical publications as a creative, political and cultural act of resistance. An invitation to take action in opposition to the infinite screen scroll.
In this 12th edition, IED Madrid once again has its own space where the work of students from the school of Visual Arts, but also of students from other disciplines, can be purchased.
The students will be selling their proposals created ad hoc for Libros Mutantes: publications, posters and other creations with the profits going directly to their authors.
We also invite you to come and see the work that many members of our faculty will have on display at their stands.
Libros Mutantes will have a diverse programme that will be spread across different areas of La Casa Encendida, with exhibitors from independent publishers selected through an open call and from places such as Indonesia, the United States and Taipei. Taipei is the city to which the fair will dedicate its own space this year, recovering its ‘Atlas’ section, which includes a graphic exhibition, Asian publications and talks.
But that's not all!
There will be a series of conferences that will bring together figures such as the collectives Fabulous Future, the Hispanic Wave platform or the Swedish graphic designer Johanna Burai, among others, who will explore themes such as design, desktop publishing, visual culture, subcultures and technology from reactive and experimental perspectives.
