IED’s design values were present at the ceremony, helping to strengthen business relations between Italy and Spain

On 7 November, during the celebrations of the 10th edition of the “Mediterranean Lighthouse Award”, the winner of the 6th My Start BCN competition was announced. Andrea Marchesi, Director of IED, was one of the jury members for this competition, devised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Barcelona in collaboration with Abinsula and the Polytechnic University of Turin to promote Italian start-ups that want to internationalise and expand from the Spanish market.

Together with representatives from Abinsula, Banco Mediolanum, Barcelona Activa, JET – Japan Europe Teamwork, IESE Business School, i2CAT, Pimec, Barcelona Tech City, NTT DATA, Crowe Spain, Seed&Click, Mind The Bidge, Talent Garden, 3XP Global and The option, Marchesi contributed his expertise in design, business and innovation to help select the winning project. On this occasion, Biovitae, a start-up that has created a light bulb that both lights up and sanitises a room, was the winner over three other finalists: Contents.com, nCoreHR and Yeastime.

The “Mediterranean Lighthouse Award” acknowledge the contribution of companies to economic relations between Spain and Italy, and the winners in 2023 were Brembo SpA and ISDIN. The former is a global leader in designing and producing automotive systems and brakes, while ISDIN is a Catalan pharmaceutical company specialising in skincare.

The 10th edition of the “Mediterranean Lighthouse Award” was attended by various guests of honour, including Roberto Nocella, First Counsellor of the Italian Embassy in Spain, and Emnauelle Manzitti, Consul General of Italy in Barcelona. Agustí Valls i Prats, Director of IED Spain, was also among the noteworthy invitees from the business world.
