Zinebi, the International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao, is accredited by the Hollywood Academy as a qualifier for the Oscars.

ZINEBI, the International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao, an unmissable event on the city’s cultural agenda, is the only Class A documentary film festival recognised in Spain. Its extensive programme, featuring filmmakers from all over the world, presents viewers with the complex realities of the society in which we live.

This year, for its 65th edition, the Designers Clara Briones and Antton Ugarte of Vedia Design Studio, Teachers of the Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, were responsible for creating the festival’s graphic and visual identity.

Its successful proposal revolves around “an iconic and universally recognised symbol for photography and film enthusiasts”. As its creators explain, “in this way, we express the creative approach and the infinite possibilities of visual storytelling through a graphic resource that explains the essence and the ability to capture the viewer’s attention”.

It is the second year in a row that Zinebi has enlisted local artists — and IED Kunsthal Bilbao teachers — to develop the event’s visual identity. Ángela Alonso and Elena Perea of Happyending Studio, Illustration and Experimental Typography Teachers of the Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design developed a vibrant proposal for the previous edition, which they explain in this interview.
