Saioa presented Matterness, her final degree project from the 2024/25 academic year, which invites us to rethink our relationship with matter. The project combines an essay with a collaborative web platform exploring the possibilities of biomaterials through an approach rooted in respect, care and collaboration.
Her participation formed part of the fourth edition of Basquerville Fest, which brought together professionals working in design, technology and contemporary creative practice in Vitoria-Gasteiz from 8 to 10 October. The programme featured leading international figures such as Miguel Chevalier, Gab Bois and the agency Bürocratik, alongside studios and professionals from the Basque Country and across Spain. Within the festival, Harroby provided an informal setting to discover emerging talent, share projects and concerns, and connect with the design community.
This appearance marked another milestone for Saioa and Matterness. In 2025, the project featured in IED’s group exhibition at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven and was presented at Basque Dok, Bilbao’s International Festival of Contemporary Imagery, and Talentu Gazteak, EIDE’s initiative showcasing final degree projects from the Basque Country and Navarre. In 2026, the project also received an iF Design Student Award and was nominated for an ADG Laus Award in the Final Degree Project – Graphic Design category.
