Italy Takes the Spotlight as Partner Country with the participation of IED Alumni

The Fashion Summit Hong Kong 2024 is a landmark event in the global fashion industry, with Italy proudly taking center stage as this year’s Partner Country. Organized by the Clothing Industry Textile Authority (CITA), in collaboration with the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, this prestigious summit traditionally brings together thought leaders, industry professionals, and emerging talents to discuss and showcase the future of fashion.

As the spotlight has fallen on Italy, IED - Istituto Europeo di Design is thrilled to tell that two of its Alumni have been selected to participate in key initiatives at the summit: Italo Marseglia, Senior Fashion Designer, IED Roma Alumni and long-term partner of IED as Ambassador, Mentor and Coordinator of the Fashion Design Master course and Francesco Saverio Matera, Footwear Designer at Moncler, IED Milano Alumni in Fashion Design and winner of several awards.

IED is particularly proud of this recognition as it underscores the growing impact of Italian creativity and innovation on the international fashion scene, specifically through the talented work of designers trained in IED.

Italy as Partner Country

This year, as Partner Country, Italy brought its distinctive fashion culture and sustainability initiatives to the summit thanks to both a commercial project and the participation of Italo Marseglia to a panel discussion at Fashion Summit International Conference.

The commercial project consisted in the exhibition of Francesco and Italo’s collections at Airside, a modern building in the center of Hong Kong with an important city mall. The two designers had the possibility to actual sell their pieces to the local audience, giving also a testimony on responsible production processes through their creations.

Then Italo took part in Presage Sustainable Fashion Trend, a panel discussion about the future fashion trends, together with Jane Rüsz Scaffidi Abbate, Lecturer of Eco-Design and Circular Economy in the fashion sector at IED Milano, Mr. Peter Hui, Chairman of Hong Kong Knitwear Exporters & Manufacturers Association and Mr. Eric Lau, Vice Chairman of Sustainable Animal Fibers Council, FHKI.

The Role of IED Alumni in Sustainable Fashion

This year’s summit had been a thrilling chapter in the ongoing conversation about sustainability, with IED alumni at the forefront of driving meaningful change. The focus of the summit remains on fostering sustainable innovation within the fashion industry, and Italy’s partnership further solidifies the global push towards environmental responsibility. As part of the summit's initiatives, IED Alumni had the opportunity to present groundbreaking ideas that address critical issues in fashion production, consumption, and waste management.
