On 14 September, the Welcome Event welcomed a new generation of creatives and designers joining the undergraduate programmes

IED Barcelona has opened the 2026–2027 academic year with a Welcome Event for the 225 first-year students enrolled on the Bachelor of Arts in Design, BA (Hons) and IED Diploma programmes. Held on 14 September, the occasion gave this new generation of students from 52 different nationalities their first opportunity to experience the world of creativity and design and become acquainted with the Istituto Europeo di Design community.

The event began with a welcome from Raffaella Perrone, Director of IED Barcelona, who introduced the students to the Heads of the centre’s different schools (Visual Arts, Design, Fashion and Communication), as well as the new spaces on campus.

Fashion Design alumnus Nio Roca and Product Design student Sofia Millán also took to the stage to share first-hand with the new students what it is like to study at IED and the professional opportunities that come with being part of its alumni network.

Following the speeches, the Welcome Event included a celebratory toast, joined by students from all years of the undergraduate programmes, lecturers and staff.

Welcome Week will be rounded off with four days of workshops and activities introducing students to the school’s labs and services, as well as to the city of Barcelona.
