For 15 years, IED Roma and Alice nella città have shared a vision of cinema as a language to experience, explore and shape. In 2026, this long-standing partnership continues, bringing IED students into the heart of the festival and giving them the opportunity to put their creative skills into practice across audiovisual production, photography, sound design and new media.

Taking place in Rome from 13 to 25 October 2026, the festival Alice nella città will once again become a hands-on learning environment for students from the IED School of Visual Arts in Rome. Students from the three-year programmes in Cinema and Video Design, Sound Design and Photography will work together as a multimedia editorial team, documenting screenings, talks and press activities throughout the festival.

Through video, photography, interviews and social media content, they will capture Alice nella città as it unfolds, turning the festival into a living laboratory where different forms of storytelling and production can be explored in real time.

The experience gives students a direct connection with the world of cinema and the people who shape it. Working alongside professionals, filmmakers and performers, they have the chance to develop their skills while experiencing first-hand the pace, challenges and creative dynamics of contemporary communication.

Over the years, the collaboration has also been a starting point for talents who have gone on to build their own careers in cinema. Among them is Margherita Ferrari, who returns to the festival in 2026 with FÖA – C’era una volta il futuro, her debut feature film, presented in the Panorama Italia section. Another is Phaim Bhuiyan, director of Bangla, winner of the David di Donatello, Nastro d’Argento and Globo d’Oro awards.

This year, the collaboration expands into the digital realm as well. Students from the Interactive Media Design Bachelor of Arts have designed the new Alice nella città website, helping to reimagine the festival’s online experience and extend its identity into the digital space.

From camera to sound, from photography to web design, different disciplines and creative skills come together within one shared project. Because at Alice nella città, cinema is more than something to watch: it is a space to learn how to tell the story of the present and, through images and new media, shape the perspectives of tomorrow.
