An international Erasmus+ project at the intersection of fashion, culture and creativity.
IED Firenze, in collaboration with Kingston University, presents "Together, We are Fashion!" - Second Hand, Archives and Brand Identity, an international educational project exploring themes of second hand, fashion archives, the influence of art, and brand identity construction within a contemporary context.
The programme unfolds through an intensive format structured across two on-site weeks in London (February) and Florence (May), preceded by a kick-off and four online sessions for preparation and review held between January and April.
The project involves students from the First Level Academic Diploma in Fashion Design and Fashion Styling and Art Direction, guiding them under the supervision of professional tutors through a learning experience based on research activities, workshops, and exchanges with local creative communities. The aim is to leverage the genius loci of both cities: on one hand, the artistic heritage and manufacturing tradition of Florence; on the other, the contemporary, experimental and multicultural scene of London.
Through this dual perspective, students are invited to analyse and reinterpret fashion and its languages in relation to cultural, historical and social contexts, fostering the development of original and conscious projects that engage with the past, present and future of the industry.
More specifically, students, working in mixed groups, are tasked with developing the concept of a contemporary micro-brand that integrates the project’s themes as creative and identity-driven tools. At the end of the programme, each group produces a narrative multimedia editorial designed to present the brand identity through imagery reflecting the project’s aesthetic, outfit styling based on second hand and vintage garments and archival reinterpretations, as well as a visual narrative including photography, graphic and textual elements, and a written concept statement outlining values, aesthetic approach and the connection to the host cities.
The project reflects IED’s commitment to promoting international and interdisciplinary educational paths capable of fostering a critical and design-driven vision of contemporary fashion. It is also part of the broader framework of initiatives supported by the Erasmus+ programme, particularly within the scope of blended mobility, a model that combines physical mobility and digital collaboration, encouraging intercultural exchange, European academic cooperation, and the development of transversal skills within a structured and shared international context.
