A reflection on economic models, responsibility and sustainability narratives within the contemporary fashion system.
IED Firenze hosted a conversation with Matteo Ward and Sara Sozzani Maino moderata da Andrea Nardi (Academic Coordinator Fashion School - IED Firenze) that invited reflection on the role of sustainability within the contemporary fashion system, bringing together different perspectives shaped by research, industry and cultural practice.
Guided by a series of open questions, the discussion addressed key themes such as fashion’s economic models, the implications of circularity, and the balance between individual and corporate responsibility. Rather than seeking definitive answers, the conversation highlighted the complexity of sustainable transformation and the multiple narratives that surround it.
The systemic and design-driven approach of Matteo Ward, CEO and co-founder of WRÅD, intersected with the editorial and cultural perspective of Sara Sozzani Maino, Creative Director of Fondazione Sozzani and International Brand Ambassador for Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. Their exchange contributed to a nuanced and reflective dialogue.
The event forms part of IED’s ongoing commitment to fostering critical thinking and interdisciplinary dialogue on the future of fashion and design.
