The garment as a device for thought is revealed in the collections of graduating Fashion Design students. 55 self-selected projects take center stage in the exhibition on June 27 and 28.
An invitation to contemplate the practice of thought as it materializes through the garment.
IED presents Unfold: the Fashion School’s Milan campus transforms into an exhibition space, welcoming the public into a landscape of plural languages, unsettled perspectives, and visual and sensorial reflections that take shape through the thesis collections of graduating Fashion Design students.
On view June 27 and 28, 55 projects—the self-selected works of designers who responded spontaneously to an internal call—will be unveiled to visitors as fragments of a collective narrative, interweaving memory, imagination, and research.
Within this mix of forms, signs, objects, and subjects lie the future protagonists of IED’s runway show during Milano Fashion Week in September.
Alongside this “self-selection,” a large-scale installation in the Spazio Teatro at Via Pompeo Leoni 3 expands the narrative with additional outfits and visions from graduating students, made possible thanks to the contribution of Hans Boodt Mannequins, a leading Dutch partner in the field.
Structured into five thematic sections—Onirico, Echo, Syntesis, Astratto, Organico—Unfold becomes a topography of gazes, where each work is a passage, each sign a question.
A parallel editorial project collects fragments, traces, and tones of the present, expanding the temporal and spatial boundaries of the exhibition. “More than an endpoint, the garment here becomes a device for thought: a form that resists, connects, and interprets,”
comments Umberto Sannino, Head of the Fashion School at IED Milano.
“Unfold is a collective gesture that opens up, transforms, and invites us to see aesthetics as a living space of reflection and urgency.”
Unfold will be open to the public at IED Milano (Via Pompeo Leoni 3)
