IED and Bonaudo together to promote talent and sustainability in fashion design

On May 27, 2025, the final event of the Fashion Design Contest “The Beauty of Sustainable Traditions. Leather: a luxury leader in circularity and durability meets the new generations” took place at Bonaudo’s headquarters in Cuggiono. The contest was born from the collaboration between the tanning company Bonaudo and IED Milano.

Eight young talents from the Fashion Design and Shoes & Accessories Design courses at IED Milano presented capsule collections crafted with high-quality leathers, embodying a fashion vision that combines sustainability, traceability, and innovation. These creations skillfully merged craftsmanship and experimentation, expressing a contemporary vision of responsible and enduring luxury.

The capsule collection “Equilibrio Aureo” by Costanza Barbieri and Giulio Censori stood out for its innovative blend of aesthetics and functionality, featuring transformable and modular leather pieces that embody the values of sustainability and craftsmanship. The project was awarded for its design coherence, creative vision, and technical execution. Thanks to this recognition, the two young designers will have the opportunity to showcase their collection in Bonaudo’s showroom, gaining visibility among leading luxury and streetwear brands.

Alessandro Iliprandi, CEO of Bonaudo, emphasized the importance of leather as a natural, bio-based material that represents a cornerstone for a more conscious future in fashion. Umberto Sannino, Head of the Fashion School at IED Milano, highlighted how the contest offers a unique opportunity for young designers to elevate a precious material with an ethical and creative approach.

The finalist collections explored diverse themes and languages, ranging from the intensity of life and its emotional contrasts to the rediscovery of vulnerability as an authentic strength; from paying homage to cultural and artisanal traditions with deep identity references, to reflections on overcoming social and identity stereotypes. Other collections delved into collective memory and multicultural inclusion, proposing modular and transformable garments that encourage conscious, personal, and sustainable fashion. This variety of visions and approaches testifies to the creative richness and the ability of young designers to interpret, with originality and responsibility, the value of leather as an exceptional material and a symbol of sustainability.

Through this initiative, Bonaudo and IED reaffirm their commitment to supporting new generations of creatives and promoting a design culture that enhances the authentic beauty of leather while respecting both the environment and sustainability.
