This initiative is promoted by Consorzio Vera Pelle, an Italian organization founded in 1994 dedicated to promoting vegetable-tanned leather and preserving Tuscan artisanal tradition
In this edition, IED Kunsthal’s participation has included Fashion Design undergraduate student Zuriñe Berrueta, alongside faculty member and mentor Adele Orcajada, a designer and specialist in biomaterials, who supported the development of the project.
Within this framework, Zuriñe Berrueta has designed, produced and presented her collection Marbide, currently exhibited at the consortium’s stand at APLF Hong Kong, considered one of the most important fairs in the global leather and materials industry. Her project is the result of a formative experience in Florence, where she deepened her knowledge of traditional leather craftsmanship alongside master artisans.
Marbide consists of three vegetable-tanned leather bags inspired by the landscape and fishing traditions of the Basque Country, reinterpreting marine textures and materials such as ropes, weathered wood and rock. The collection connects contemporary design with territory and craftsmanship, highlighting sustainability and the quality of the material.
This participation has provided the student with a valuable educational and international projection opportunity, allowing her to develop her collection in a context of excellence and present it within a high-level professional environment.
