The graduate event of the IED Milano School of Fashion lands at the Arco della Pace (Dazio di Levante) and opens to the city
The fashion outlook of tomorrow's designers takes to the streets, tells its story in the first person, makes suggestions, and allows itself to be looked at as well as judged. And it does so from a Milanese location with a high historical and iconic value, a “container” of projects with a “beating heart”, ready to come out with its creativity and contaminate the city.
IED Avant Défilé - the end-of-year event of IED Milano School of Fashion - is preparing to animate - on 28 and 29 June - the Dazio di Levante di Porta Sempione (Arco della Pace). This is a two-day event open to the public which is invited to discover and vote on the best IED graduate collections alongside students, professionals, lecturers, fashion experts and journalists.
13 rooms inside the 19th-century structure will feature the 13 creations of 17 graduates in Fashion Design and Shoes as well as Accessories Design from IED Milano, presented in different settings, forming a highly personal yet collective story, enriched by live moments in which the garments will come to life.
The public's contribution will lead to the selection of the three most-voted projects, winning the participation in national and international shows in which IED will participate in the coming months.
“Occupying the Dazio (an important and majestic building in the history of Milan), means making it live and vibrate with stories that have their rhythm and identity”, comments Olivia Spinelli, Coordinator and Creative Director of the IED Milano fashion area, as well as curator of the event. “For the first Avant Défilé open to the city, we were inspired by the concept of the beating heart as a vital organ that unites all individuals. We also thought of the projects on display as the heartbeats of living beings.
As Fritz Lang expressed in his masterpiece Metropolis, The mediator between the hands and the head must be the heart”.
The appointment with IED Avant Défilé 2023 is at the Dazio di Levante (Arco della Pace, Piazza Sempione 1) on 28 and 29 June. Free entrance.
