Gobal Design Forum

Global Design Forum is London Design Festival’s event celebrating design and the minds shaping its future.

IED along with UAL will inaugurate the forum - hosted at Victoria & Albert Museum. - curating an afternoon about Transdisciplinary Design

The complexity of today’s challenges requires a new vision in order to propose different solutions, innovative proposals and sustainable alternatives. Transdisciplinarity emerges as a new mindset that transcends conventional barriers in order to propose valid answers to global questions.

Why do we need a transdisciplinary approach to design to face the challenges of the contemporary world? What are the main challenges that the next generation of designers will face?

What skills do tomorrow's designers need to operate in a transdisciplinary environment? How can design universities provide students with these skills?

How do you apply a transdisciplinary design methodology in real design practices? What are the benefits and challenges? What are today's studios looking for when recruiting staff and in their teams?

What does it mean to work in a transdisciplinary way?

Among many international guests, IED will participate with Riccardo Balbo, IED Academic Director; Michael Thomson, Founder and Director at Design Connect and Scientific Coordinator of Master of Arts in Transdisciplinary Design; Angela Rui, Design Curator & Researcher; and Wouter Haspeslagh
Chief Urbanism and mobility at Granstudio and Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Transdisciplinary Design at IED Torino.

Dr. Nelly Ben Hayound will close the day with her point of view on disruptive systems, multidisciplinary practices supporting youth countercultures, and pluralistic futures; and premiering her film “Tour the Moon”.
