The free spring school promoted by Festival Cinema in Verde together with the NGO ACS has started in Rome. IED is among the project’s training partners.
The free film school has launched in Rome, dedicated to twelve young women and men from the West Bank and Gaza, with the aim of creating a concrete space for solidarity and professional opportunities.
The project is called Land and takes place in Rome during April and May, involving participants in a program of production and learning audiovisual techniques, culminating in the creation of original short films.
The initiative is conceived and promoted by Festival Cinema in Verde together with the NGO ACS, in partnership with Sapienza University of Rome – Museum Hub and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle of the Municipality of Rome.
IED is among the project’s training partners and is hosting the young Palestinian filmmakers at its Rome campus from May 4 to 25 to produce, under the guidance of Devor De Pascalis, a lecturer in the Bachelor of Arts in Cinema and Video Design (taught in English), three original short films to be presented in September during the festival.
The training also involves production companies Groenlandia (part of the Banijay group) and Pandataria. Professionals taking part include director and producer Matteo Rovere, who will host a masterclass at IED open to IED students as well; directors and screenwriters Giulia Steigerwalt and Greta Scarano; actors Giulia Michelini and Vinicio Marchioni; director of photography Peppe Maio; colorist Manuela Spartà; production designer Andrea Castorina; and many others.
At the end of the program, participants will be able to continue their work independently thanks to the skills acquired and dedicated technical equipment. They will also receive support through the Start Your Business (SYB) program of Bethlehem University, which can help develop initiatives in the audiovisual and documentary sector.
Land is made possible above all thanks to a widespread network of solidarity. Crowdfunding helps cover travel costs, insurance, and the procedures required to enter Italy. A spontaneous network of Roman families has stepped in to offer accommodation for the entire duration of the spring school, directly contributing to the realization of the project.
