IED Milano Sound Design BA students will meet the milanese research Studio within SISS project on 10th December.
IED Milano will host the first Studio Visit in the context of SISS project - Sounding Images, Screening Sounds (powered by PNRR/NextGenerationEU and aimed to cooperation among AFAM institutions). The protagonist is Studio Azzurro, one of the most significant collectives on the international scene of audiovisual research and interactive art. Active since 1982 through the collaboration of Fabio Cirifino, Paolo Rosa and Leonardo Sangiorgi — later joined by Stefano Roveda from 1995 to 2011 — the group has pioneered the poetic and expressive possibilities of emerging technological cultures.
Since its beginnings, Studio Azzurro has experimented with the integration of electronic imagery and physical space, placing at the center the spectator, their presence, and their perceptual pathways. With the creation of the first “sensitive environments” in 1995, its narrative approach evolved further: the audience’s actions — mediated by natural interfaces — became generative elements of the storytelling.
The collective has worked across multiple formats, from film to sensitive environments and theatre, building a transversal artistic journey enriched by important collaborations and by a working group open to diverse contributions. Among its most significant achievements is the definition of a new museum model dedicated to valuing the memory of local communities: the narrative museum, an exhibition device that weaves together archives, technologies, and participation.
The meeting will offer students direct insight into the design methods and narrative modes that characterize Studio Azzurro’s work, opening a reflection on the role of experiential technologies in contemporary exhibition design.
December 10, 7:00 PM, Room S10, Via Amatore Antonio Sciesa 4, Milan.
