The installation, part of the European project SISS – Sounding Images, Screening Sounds, was presented in the Agora of IED Kunsthal Bilbao with a live performance.
Graphic signs and static illustrations become living matter in motion: deconstructed, animated and brought to life through sound, they are reconfigured into a continuous flow in which sounds and images interact.
This is the essence of Visioni dal Futuro, an audiovisual installation that, through creativity, offers one era’s взгляд upon another. The starting point of the work developed within the European project SISS – Sounding Images, Screening Sounds is the graphic and communication materials from the archives of Triennale Milano (the posters from the twenty-four International Exhibitions held between 1923 and 2025), developed and reorganized by students from the Sound Design and Graphic Design courses at IED Milano, with the support of lecturers and tutors.
The installation unfolds as a chronological audiovisual flow in which each poster breaks down into graphic elements, comes to life through animation, and transforms into the next. Music and sound design engage in dialogue with colors, movements and visual signs, interpreting and influencing them to generate an ever-changing sequence of synchronicities for a kaleidoscopic experience: a varied and dynamic choreography.
Following a reduced-format preview last January at the Conservatorio di Trento (lead partner of the SISS project), the installation arrived in Bilbao on February 19 – at IED Kunsthal – where it remained on view until February 26. The opening featured an interactive live performance reworking the installation’s visual and sound materials in real time, offering a dynamic, spontaneous and ever-changing interpretation.
At its core, in the Agora of the Basque city’s avant-garde school, stands an imposing video wall from which moving visual and sound materials expand into the space. Alongside it, a large-scale print composed of static, collective and modular reinterpretations of the same original graphic elements, created by the students during the project.
Ultimately, the installation offers a gaze from the future — that of younger generations of creatives — onto a past that shaped the history of graphic design (the series of posters from the International Exhibitions of Triennale progressively encapsulates the cultural and aesthetic transformations of a century marked by profound change). A perspective capable of generating new visions.
After Bilbao, the installation will travel to Lecce on March 1 for a performance at the Conservatorio Tito Schipa.
