The Academy Award®-winning director inaugurated the School of Cinema with an open talk, in collaboration with OffiCine-IED.
A sold out event marked the launch of the new IED School of Cinema: OffiCine-IED organized a Special Lecture open to students and the general public with director Paolo Sorrentino on Tuesday, October 21 at the IED Milano Spazio Teatro, Via Pompeo Leoni 3.
“I look with great curiosity at the younger generations because I want to understand how they relate to the present and how they look toward the future. There is so much beauty and energy in young people, and I’m eager to meet their gaze — both in cinema and on cinema,” said Sorrentino before the talk in the IED Theater, which was more crowded than ever. “I believe that education in cinema finds its true purpose in giving young people the tools to look deeply into films, with the goal of discovering a style, a form. Outside of school, there is life — and that’s where the real game of substance is played. It’s the practice of life that shapes the poetic and narrative universe of every aspiring filmmaker.”
The Academy Award®-winning director of The Great Beauty, Jury Prize winner at the Cannes Film Festival with Il Divo, Silver Lion at Venice with The Hand of God, and recipient of multiple David di Donatello and European Film Awards, will meet IED Cinema students and film enthusiasts for an inspiring moment of storytelling and reflection dedicated to cinema—its poetics, and its many crafts.
This special event offers a unique opportunity for future professionals of the seventh art who will train in Milan, particularly within the newly founded IED School of Cinema, whose Scientific Committee includes Paolo Sorrentino alongside Piera Detassis, Paolo Mereghetti, Silvio Soldini, Valeria Golino, Pierfrancesco Favino, Fabrizio Donvito, and Adriano Giannini.
