Design enthusiasts enjoyed a free day dedicated to graphic design and all its possibilities for expression and manifestation, through workshops, talks and exhibitions.
Graphic design is a discipline that encompasses countless possibilities for expression and creation. To showcase them, the Istituto Europeo di Design, IED Madrid, opened the doors of its campus in the Design District (Carabanchel) to host Times New Vision, a free event to explore and enjoy graphic design beyond graphic design.
Among the scheduled activities, one highlight was the talk “Music and Creative and Art Direction from Graphic Design”, featuring Marta Ochoa (architect and art director who has worked with musicians such as Rusowsky and Ralphie Choo, creating unique visual universes), Milo Hammid (3D artist, sound designer, and creative consultant whose work merges image and sound through a fantastic aesthetic, with projects for JW Anderson, BB Trickz, and Farfetch), and Chenta Tsai Tseng, aka Putochinomaricón (a multidisciplinary artist who combines music, activism, and Asian pop aesthetics through a critical and queer lens).
Together, they reflected on the role of graphic design in building visual narratives, particularly in the music world, with a focus on music videos — where this language allows artists to shape their own universe with the support of professionals specialized in visual communication, creative production, and design.
There was also a workshop led by Aida Salán, art director for artists such as Belén Aguilera and lecturer at IED Madrid, where attendees were able to create and take home their own Lucky Charms, letting their creativity run free.
The event also explored new professional paths that graphic design offers through the talk “Post Graphic Design”, where IED Madrid alumni shared their career journeys across diverse fields such as strategic design, audiovisual production, futures design, content creation, and campaign development. Participants included Daniel Santiago Manchado (Estudio Brillante), Paula Martín Villarejo (Invisible), Melisa Illoh Flores (Marketing y Redes), and Andrea López del Caño together with Jaime Castiel Denis (Toi Studio).
Exhibitions were also part of the program, such as the “TDC 70 Exhibition”, showcasing the winning works of the 70th Annual International Type Directors Club Competition (New York). The show celebrates the best in typographic design, calligraphy, and lettering, highlighting the full spectrum of creativity and craftsmanship in this field.
In addition, the presentation of Abono 03 Hogar took place — the fourth edition of the magazine created, managed, designed, and produced by alumni and students from the Visual Arts School of IED Madrid — through a special installation. The upcoming issue will be a multi-format meta-publication reflecting on a topic as urgent as it is timeless: housing, identity, and the meaning of “home” in times of crisis. The working group, led by alumni Alex Boutin and Claudia Campos, shared their processes, tests, articles, and inspirations through this installation format.
The day concluded with a DJ set by Turian Boy (Alejandro Vidal), one of the emerging figures in Spain’s pop music scene and a lecturer at IED Madrid.
During the event, we also welcomed content creator Julieta Wibel, a communicator on art, graphic design, and fashion topics, who — from “her bed” — interviewed participants and attendees throughout the day.
Finally, the celebration continued at the Carabanchel Distrito Cultural pavilion at the San Isidro Fair, designed by third-year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design.
From music videos to campaign development, graphic design is a language that connects disciplines, emotions, and new ways of narrating the visual world. Through Times New Vision, IED Madrid aimed to bring this creative richness closer to all audiences — through an open and dynamic experience where emerging talent, critical thinking, and new design professions intersect.
