The looks will be displayed until 18 June
Applying upcycling techniques to garments donated by the Fundació Formació i Treball, first-year students from the Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design and Styling at IED Barcelona have designed 14 looks that will be displayed in the shop windows of three Moda Re- establishments in Barcelona, one in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and another in Sant Adrià de Besós, until 18 June.
“Sustainability is one of the pillars of our school. From day one, our students work on their designs, always taking into account all aspects of the production process and the life cycle of a garment. The need to optimise resources to maintain an ecological balance is fundamental if we want to ensure the needs of the present without compromising those of future generations, which is why we are delighted to have participated in this initiative that promotes a second life for clothes through creativity and social awareness”, explain Julia Weems and Pilar Pasamontes, Head of Fashion School and Fashion School Scientific Director at IED Barcelona, respectively.
Moda re- is an innovative initiative that addresses the environmental impact of the textile industry by reusing and recycling clothes, promoting eco-friendly solutions and fostering social inclusion. It also encourages responsible and conscious consumption, raising awareness within the community about the benefits of choosing more circular alternatives. Their shops not only sell second-hand products and surplus from collections, but also serve as educational spaces, where consumers can learn about the textile transformation process and the importance of ethical consumption.
