Textile Refugee (IED Milano), EVOluzione and Sei Complice (IED Roma) are in the running for the 2028 Compasso d’Oro in the Targa Giovani category. They explore three themes: repurposing fast-fashion waste for construction; olive oil as a way to discover a region; and the responsibility of viewers in perpetuating the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

No fewer that three IED projects have been selected for the ADI Design Index 2026, the annual publication by ADI – the Italian Association for Industrial Design – showcasing projects that reflect some of the most significant developments in contemporary Italian design across different fields.

All three IED projects have been recognised in the Targa Giovani category.

TEXTILE REFUGEE

Developed as a Product Design thesis project at IED Milano by Mattia Cappiello, Carola Castiglione, Giacomo Frova and Mattia Macciachini, Textile Refugee addresses the global textile waste crisis through Limetex eco-friendly bricks, made from fast-fashion waste and hydrated lime. Designed for Chorkor, Ghana, the concept proposes a model of circular, inclusive and low-impact construction that can create jobs and provide affordable housing solutions.

EVOluzione

A multisensory kit developed in collaboration with Terranostra, the national association for agritourism, the environment and local areas promoted by Coldiretti, transforms extra virgin olive oil tasting into an experience that reveals the product, its place of origin and its culture. Created by Narancia Yan Zihan, Vittoria Peng Yingxin and Lucia Xu Yuke as their Product Design thesis project at IED Roma, EVOluzione explores olive oil, food and wine tourism as a way to promote rural traditions and cultures. An experience rooted in the distinctive character of Central Italy, it is accessible to non-specialist audiences and supported by a system of objects and services.

SEI COMPLICE

A QR code and an explicit invitation. This course project by Clara Vella, Carlotta Ardu, Pamela Marcelli, Martina Martucci and Gaia Parmigiani, Communication Design students at IED Roma, uses a striking guerrilla marketing campaign on the streets of Rome’s university districts to challenge the non-consensual sharing of intimate images and highlight the responsibility of those who view them. Flyers carrying provocative messages appeared to offer access to former partners’ “nudes”. The promise was deliberately misleading: scanning the code instead led to a video exposing the viewer’s action and confronting them with the statement that gives the campaign its name: If you look, you’re complicit
