A plant-based interface for shared work environments that translates digital conditions into a slower, more atmospheric ritual of care
The project responds to the growing pressure of hybrid work, constant notifications, and technostress by proposing a living object that sits between people, plants, and computational systems. Instead of adding another screen or command surface to the workplace, “Lumelia” uses a plant as a soft output interface: its light and condition become subtle signals that can be noticed collectively without demanding immediate reaction.
The system is designed for common spaces such as shared desks, corridors, kitchens, or office lounge areas, where daily routines are usually informal but culturally important. Sensors read selected environmental and plant-care conditions, while the object supports small gestures of attention such as checking, watering, observing, and responding. These gestures turn plant care into a shared ritual rather than a hidden maintenance task.
