Design at the Intersection of Craftsmanship and Digital Manufacturing

In collaboration with the Government of Catalonia, through the Consorci de Comerç, Artesania i Moda (CCAM) of the Department of Business and Labour, and the Ateneu de Fabricació de Gràcia, third-year Product Design students from IED Barcelona have taken part in a new edition of New Crafts. Digital Revolution.
From a high-fidelity loudspeaker crafted from solid walnut to jewellery combining hand-shaped glass with 3D-printed structures, as well as ceramic lighting panels mounted on a PET-G base and kinetic sculptures that transform movement and sound into a contemplative sensory experience. These are just some of the 16 designs developed by third-year Bachelor of Arts in Product Design students at IED Barcelona in collaboration with local master craftspeople for a new edition of "New Crafts. Digital Revolution". A project carried out with the Consorci de Comerç, Artesania i Moda de Catalunya and the Ateneu de Fabricació de Gràcia, it brings together the latest digital technologies and traditional craft production processes to explore new methods of manufacturing.
