Spanish fashion’s biggest night returns for the II edition of the Spanish Fashion Academy Awards on July 17, in a gala held at the Fernán Gómez Cultural Center Villa in Madrid. The event is organized by the Fundación Academia de la Moda Española (FAME) and RTVE to celebrate and recognize the diversity and talent of Spain’s fashion sector.
Unlike the first edition — which featured eight categories — this year’s awards include eleven, highlighting the richness of Spanish fashion talent. Out of the 11 awards to be handed out, the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) holds 12 nominations, reaffirming its position as a benchmark in design education.
The nominees include seven designers and one brand: Juan Vidal and Luis de Javier, Creative Director of the Fashion School and Fashion Design alumnus from IED Barcelona, respectively; and Tíscar Espadas, Jaime Álvarez (Mans), Moisés Nieto, Ernesto Naranjo, Luis Berrendero, and Sepiia, all fashion alumni from IED Madrid.
Notably, four of the five nominees in the Emerging Talent category come from IED: Luis de Javier (IED Barcelona), Luis Berrendero, Jaime Álvarez (Mans), and Tíscar Espadas (IED Madrid), the latter two receiving their second consecutive nomination.
Other nominees include Mans in the Best Collection category for “Autumn Winter 2024/2025” and Moisés Nieto for Best Runway Presentation for “FW 24-25 Presentation”.
Additionally, IED boasts three nominations in the Best Presentation: New Formats category. These include IED Madrid alumni Ernesto Naranjo for “Collection 013” and Tíscar Espadas (also teacher) for “Chapter VI, Madrid es Moda. September 2024” “Collection 013”, as well as IED Barcelona teacher Juan Vidal for “Bridal Capsule Collection 2024 Presentation”. Vidal is also nominated in the category of High Artisanal Craftsmanship Applied to Fashion for “Unconscious Gardens”.
Finally, Sepiia — whose founder, Federico Miguel Sainz De Robles Rueda, is an alumni and teacher in the Master in Textile Design and New Materials at IED Madrid — is nominated for Best Business Project and for Sustainability and Innovation for the “Sepiia” collection.
In the first edition of the awards, IED Madrid already received eight nominations for five alumni, with Carlota Barrera winning the Emerging Talent award.
