Acceptance Letter (by IED Barcelona lecturer Jeakyong Sim), Compte Spain and L’Amar (by IED Madrid alumni Santi Mozas and Nacho Lamar, respectively) impressed audiences with colourful collections that use humour and irony to challenge established norms, experiment with volumes and prints to explore the unsettling beauty of the monstrous, and pay tribute to resistance

From 20 to 23 October, the autumn edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion once again placed Barcelona at the heart of the international fashion scene. Held at Marina Vela-Port Vell for the second consecutive year, the four-day event featured 26 runway shows, bringing together established designers and emerging brands alongside fresh perspectives on sustainable and contemporary fashion. Among the extensive and diverse line-up, Acceptance Letter, Compte Spain and L’Amar, three labels with ties to the Istituto Europeo di Design, unveiled their original new creations to an enthusiastic reception from audiences and the media.

Acceptance Letter

The label founded by IED Barcelona lecturer Jeakyong Sim was the first of the three to take to the runway. On Thursday 22 October, it presented a colourful and original collection exploring the relationship between fashion, power and social class through the figure of the jester. Entitled “The Jester’s Prayer”, the expressive collection stood out for its layered garments, unexpected contrasts and deliberate excess, without resorting to conventional theatricality. Through a playful interplay of layers and volumes, Acceptance Letter transformed clothing into a narrative language combining craftsmanship, experimentation and social commentary, championing the power of humour to give a voice to those on the margins.

Compte Spain

The following day, Compte Spain (founded by IED Madrid alumnus Santi Mozas) presented “La Bête”, a collection inspired by Jean Cocteau’s ‘La Belle et la Bête’ (1946), exploring the unsettling beauty of the monstrous as a way of understanding it and reinterpreting the figure of the beast through a contemporary, emotional lens. The collection featured exaggerated, sculptural silhouettes, dramatic volumes, floral prints, shoulder pads, bows, ribbons, shimmering fabrics, sequins, sheer materials and crystals, creating a visual language somewhere between the enchanted and the wild. A colour palette of pistachio green, orange, blue, yellow, grey and pink was paired with satin, seersucker, sequins and crystal-embroidered surfaces, reinforcing the duality between the ethereal and the fierce.

L’Amar

Finally, the same day fellow IED Madrid alumnus Nacho Lamar showcased the tenth menswear collection from his label, L’AMAR, entitled “Desertores”. Inspired by Spain in the 1930s and 1940s, the collection drew on a historical and aesthetic universe that made an impact through its boundless imagination, creative boldness and artisanal craftsmanship. Standout pieces included leather waistcoats, utility pockets, wide-leg trousers and a green-toned coat featuring a graphic print.

More IED talent in the parallel activities

Alongside the runway shows, 080 Barcelona Fashion offered an extensive and varied programme in its Open Area, which also provided a platform for independent and designer fashion. In the 080Sport_SpainGallery section, visitors had the opportunity to discover the work of another outstanding emerging creative talent from the Istituto Europeo di Design, Karina Rodríguez, who studied the BA (Hons) in Fashion Design at IED Barcelona and showcased several looks from her label RUINAS. Through the brand, the designer explores femininity from a mysterious and sensual perspective, using defined silhouettes and combinations of materials.
