Baby singing opera on a black background

The project kicked off in January with a masterclass by Àlex Ollé at the Point One facilities

For the second time, a multidisciplinary team of students from IED Barcelona is participating in the co-creation of a small-format opera for the “Òh!pera. Newly created micro-operas” project. Ikària will be presented to the public on 25, 26 and 27 July at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, as part of the Grec Festival of Barcelona.

Until then, in collaboration with Stage Director Berta Prieto, Librettist Ana Pazos, and Composer Ariadna Alsina, the students are working on the design of the stage set, costumes, projections and lighting for the work, under the supervision of Àlex Ollé, Artistic Director of Òh!pera, who visited IED Barcelona on 16 January to kick off the project.

On this occasion, the co-founder of La Fura dels Baus gave an interesting masterclass to the seven Interior, Product, Fashion and Graphic Design students that form part of this new edition of a project that aims to bring opera closer to young designers. For almost two hours, he shared details of his inspiring career and gave the students key advice on how to approach the different creative stages required to carry out this initiative, promoted by the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Department of Tourism and Creative Industries of Barcelona City Council through Disseny Hub Barcelona.

We will be closely following the project's development!
