IED Madrid’s Workshop Week once again brought together different areas of design for an intensive week of workshops exploring materials, languages and emerging formats alongside international professionals invited through the Erasmus KA131 programme.

IED Madrid once again hosted its annual Workshop Week, a cross-disciplinary working week aimed at first- to third year students enrolled in the Higher Artistic Education Degree programmes (TGEAS). These intensive workshops, integrated into the complementary activities of the academic curricula, encourage experimentation, critical thinking, collaboration across disciplines, and the exploration of new technologies and contemporary design languages.

The 2025–2026 edition took place under the concept #TimesNew, which frames design as a compass in a time of radical transformation marked by hybridity, digitalisation, collectivity, and sustainability. From this perspective, design is understood as an open territory in constant evolution.

Within this framework, and thanks to the support of the Erasmus KA131 project of IED SL, Workshops Week featured two international guest lecturers whose professional trajectories embody the #TimesNew spirit and offered students a direct and up-to-date view of the sector.

Lavinia Rosseti: new forms from rediscovered materials

Italian artist Lavinia Rosseti, who specialises in contemporary jewellery, led the workshop Raw Materials — The Journey of a Material Towards a New Form. Her proposal invited students to work with recycled or found materials, understanding the “new” as something reimagined. Through actions inspired by Richard Serra’s Verblist, students investigated, transformed, and analysed matter until developing pieces that engage with the body, meaning, and symbolic value.

Filippo Rossi: audiovisual in an expanded world

Designer and creative director Filippo Rossi, a lecturer at IED Milan, led the workshop Sounding Images — Screening Sounds: Audiovisual Environments, focused on emerging audiovisual formats such as videomapping, multimedia installations, live shows, and hybrid projects. After reviewing case studies, students developed a complete audiovisual piece, exploring new relatioships between image, sound, and space.

Additionally, within the framework of the Erasmus+ agreement between IED SL and Frederick University of Cyprus, IED Madrid welcomed, during Workshop Week, the presence of Nicolas Lambouris, an associate professor, visual artist, and researcher whose practice focuses on the intersections between cultural systems, visual archives, and the politics of representation.

Workshop Week 2026 reaffirms IED’s commitment to an education that is connected to the present and oriented toward the future. The participation of international professionals—made possible through the Erasmus KA131 programme—has enriched the academic experience and allowed students to work from diverse, critical, and innovative perspectives.
