What will we choose to remember from the present we are living through? This is the starting point of the third issue of Notes on Plural Intelligences – Future Memories.

The global crises and the quiet normalisation of artificial intelligence shape everyday life, especially for younger generations whose identities are formed in constant dialogue with networks, images and data. Memory, once tied to objects, places, and emotions, now unfolds across digital age-spaces where bodies, stories and algorithms intersect in very unstable contexts. Memory is no longer retrospective. It is anticipatory.

In the third issue of Notes on Plural Intelligences we discuss which will be our Future Memories. To do so, we talk with philosopher and writer Federico Campagna and discuss which role nostalgia has today, how to live in the present and how to build new futures.

We explore the role of archives: Carlotta Cattaneo writes about IED Milano Visual Arts – Sounding Images Screening Sounds (SISS) project and we interview the art historian, journalist, and curator Cristina Moro, who curated different archives; from Domus magazine to the archive of architect and designer Michele De Lucchi, and more recently that of designer Cini Boeri.

Contemporary cultural heritage becomes constantly reinterpreted, an example is explained by editor in chief of EPOCH, Francesca Gavin, who digs into “echoes across time” with an interdisciplinary team of IED students for the project "Pathos Formulas" which will be showcased during Pitti Uomo at IED Firenze this June. In this context emerges the project “Geografia del prototipo e di un sé raccolto altrove” by Aurora Bertulli, IED Roma photography graduate, which explores the anthropological approach on visual translations. She won an IED Roma Design Award in November 2025 for this project.

With information designer Giorgia Lupi, we discuss the power of data to explain meaningful stories during her visit to Casa IED New York while Moisés Nieto presents La Hacería, a digital platform created to promote and valorize craftmanship in Spain, telling the importance of the stories behind each work.

This is an issue that requires time, reflection and observation to start defining how and where we position ourselves in the present and which memories we would like to pass on to future generations.
