Gonzalo Hergueta, Alumni IED Madrid of Visual Arts School, debuts the documentary The Designer is Dead which he directed.
The documentary explores the life of Mallorcan fashion designer Miguel Adrover. Using previously unseen archive footage and key testimonies, it reconstructs his story from his meteoric rise on the New York scene — where he was acclaimed by figures such as Anna Wintour and awarded the CFDA Award —, to his gradual disappearance from the media spotlight following his controversial Utopia show.
The documentary has won the Jury Prize at the 2026 International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) (Montreal), the Best Documentary Award in the Official Selection at Moritz Feed Doc 2026 (Barcelona), and the Audience Award at the 2025 Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest (Mallorca). It also took part in the San Sebastián Film Festival 2025 (San Sebastián), where it was the closing film of the Made in Spain section, and in the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema 2025 (Havana).
The film, which has now been in cinemas since 10 April, has been produced by Little Spain and distributed by Silencio Cinema.
Furthermore, on 9 April we were fortunate to host an exclusive preview screening at IED Madrid, followed by a discussion with director Hergueta and producer Juan Pérez de Rozas.
