The self-driving concept car developed by the students of the Master’s program in Transportation Design at IED Torino in collaboration with Tesla is on view at MAUTO in Turin as part of TIME. A Manifesto for Future Mobility, from March 26 to May 3, 2026.

IED presents TIME, the new self-driving concept car developed by students of the Master’s program in Transportation Design at IED Torino in collaboration with Tesla. Presented at MAUTO - Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile in Turin as part of the exhibition TIME. A Manifesto for Future Mobility, the project emerges as a design-driven reflection on the transformations introduced by new self-driving scenarios.

Rather than being conceived as a conventional automobile, TIME is imagined as a living space. In a near future in which driving is increasingly delegated to technology, travel time is no longer defined by waiting, but becomes a resource returned to the individual: a “25th hour.” From this perspective, the vehicle is no longer only a means of transport, but a way of rethinking how we inhabit movement, space, and technology. Its exterior is defined by an essential and geometric language, with compact volumes, continuous surfaces, and a single wedge-shaped gesture that merges roof, windshield, and rear window. In contrast, the interior regains softness, warmth, and comfort, becoming a fluid environment where technology recedes to leave room for experience.

The exhibition TIME. A Manifesto for Future Mobility turns the project into an immersive experience that goes beyond presenting the concept car, building instead a layered narrative around the method that generated it. The exhibition path guides visitors through the questions, tools, and trajectories that shaped the research, weaving together physical and digital dimensions, visual and sound installations, and moments of listening, reflection, and imagination. From voices reflecting on the future of the city, technology, infrastructure, and services, to the story of the design process developed by the students, the exhibition conveys the complexity of the project and concludes with a more intimate dimension dedicated to the interior space and to new ways of inhabiting travel time.

For months, the students worked as a design studio alongside faculty and Tesla mentors to define the identity of TIME. The project was also developed through advanced tools such as DIGIPHY, a platform developed by Granstudio that integrates virtual reality and physical interfaces, used by students to experiment with and refine the concept in a dynamic and interactive way.

TIME was designed by the students of the Master’s program in Transportation Design IED Torino, academic year 2024/2025:
Guido Baccaglini (Italy), Ria Barve (India), Blanca Bulto Aguirre (Spain), Sara Cambareri (Italy), Gonzalo Castro (Portugal), Yi-Sun Chen (Taiwan), Gautam Desai Ameya (India), Gabriele Listorti (Italy), Matteo Lonardo (Italy), Francesco Magenta (Italy), Alessandro Signorelli (Italy), Federico Tosana (Italy), Zhengjie Wang (China).
