Jacopo Koning presents Circular Tragedy (2025), an exploration of contemporary absurdity, curated by Bianca Rafaelle in a unique collaboration between IED students

Jacopo Koning (student of the Master Program in Graphic Design) presents Circular Tragedy (2025), an exploration of contemporary absurdity, curated by Bianca Rafaelle (student of the Master Program in Curatorial Practice) in a unique collaboration between IED students.

Jacopo introduces a diverse collection of works that embody his artistic philosophy: embracing the absurdity of modern life and rejecting conformity – the anti normalization.

His subsequent exhibition, Circular Tragedy (2025), is a fusion of digital and hand-drawn elements to further explore the chaos of contemporary reality. Koning’s work dismantles conventional structures, emphasizing chaos and distortion in response to the fragmented world around us.

Rejecting established norms, Koning’s pieces address the overwhelming overflow of content, the pervasive influence of social media, and the divides caused by political extremism. His art confronts the cyclical, contradictory nature of modern existence, where overstimulation alters our perceptions and distorts reality. Drawing inspiration from Dadaism and Surrealism, the exhibition urges viewers to critically examine the nature of norms in an age where they are often manipulated or diluted by external forces.

Koning pushes artistic boundaries by creating a fresh language of expression. His pieces give an ode to humor, infusing wit and irony into the artistic process. The exhibition invites viewers into a space where chaos is not only accepted but embraced as a legitimate form of expression. The tragedy depicted is not linear but cynical, urging us to reflect on our place in a constantly shifting world and to question the forces that shape our reality.
