Exhibitions, talks, workshops, and panels dedicated to visual communication in all its forms.

From May 8th to 11th, the WHY Festival returns to Florence for its seventh edition: a rich program of exhibitions, talks, workshops, and panels dedicated to visual communication in all its forms.

On Friday, May 9th, IED Firenze will host three special events at its campus in Via Bufalini 6/R:

  • 3:30 PM – Talk with Miriam Frescura and Andrea Mastroluca, Creative Directors of Auge Design. Founded in 2016 between Florence and Milan, Auge has quickly become a leading studio in branding and packaging, receiving major international awards such as Pentawards 2023 Design Agency of the Year and The Dieline 2022 Studio of the Year.

  • 5:00 PM – Conversation “Graphic Stories” with Andrea Rauch and Stefano Rovai. Co-founders of the Florence-based studio Graphiti, they were part of the Italian Public Service Graphic Design movement. Both have extensive careers in editorial design, cultural and institutional communication, and teaching, with work featured by institutions such as the Venice Biennale, Centre Pompidou, and MoMA in New York.

  • 6:30 PM – Presentation by Matteo Berton, illustrator born in 1988. His work ranges from comics and children’s books to editorial and commercial illustration, with clients including The New York Times, Feltrinelli, and Laterza. Awarded by the Society of Illustrators in New York, Berton will discuss his career and his latest project Pini, a visual exploration of nature’s evocative power and its role in our memories.

The theme of this year’s edition is Protopia – an invitation to use creativity to build a fairer and more sustainable future, step by step.

All events have free admission.
