'S.L.I.C.K.' (Scalable Liquid Integration Containment Kit) is a lightweight marine oil spill containment and cleanup system designed for recreational vessels.
As maritime traffic increases, so does the risk of small-scale unintentional spills. 'S.L.I.C.K.' offers a scalable, crew-friendly solution that protects marine environments without disrupting life onboard.
At its core is Oleo Sponge, a nanotechnology-treated foam developed by Argonne National Laboratory that absorbs oil, but not water, up to 90 times its own weight. It is shaped in the form of spherical sponges that clump together naturally for efficient collection.
The oyster-inspired S.L.I.C.K. wringer extracts oil from the balls using a simple, repariable fibreglass housing. It is easy to clean and designed for daily use by the crew.
Finally, OLIE, a flexible foam-coated jet tube, helps locate and guide the oil-soaked sponges while preventing their compression.
