Discover how a jewel comes to life: from the first intuition to a dialogue with materials transforming an idea into a tangible object.
Milan is an open-air laboratory where design shapes fashion, art intersects with craftsmanship, and ideas grow within a dynamic network of ateliers, companies, and creative professionals.
Joining a Summer Course in Jewelry in Milan means immersing yourself in this vibrant ecosystem, embracing constant inspiration, and developing a truly contemporary design perspective.
The course guides you through the entire creative process - from research and concept development to hands-on experimentation with materials and techniques.
The goal is to provide you with a comprehensive first approach to contemporary jewelry, equipping you with a clear design methodology and leading you to the creation of a finished piece.
You will discover how an intuition evolves into form, structure, and identity.
Turn your ideas into matter. Start your journey in jewelry design in the heart of Milan.
The course integrates design culture, experimentation, and laboratory practice in an intensive format of 3 weeks (75 hours). No previous experience is required.
The journey begins with observing and understanding jewelry as an expressive language, before gradually moving into guided material exploration and hands-on workshop practice. Technical skills are introduced in an essential and focused way — as concrete tools serving the project, rather than an exhaustive overview of goldsmithing techniques.
You will be guided in developing a personal idea, experimenting with it, and producing a coherent and well-resolved final project. The approach is strongly process-oriented.
The workshop becomes a space for research, where you explore the relationship between concept, gesture, and material, leaving room for experimentation and individual development.
This course is designed as an introductory experience, structured to provide a solid and contemporary vision of jewelry as an object, expression, and relationship with the body.
It is ideal for individuals interested in exploring the world of contemporary jewelry; students or professionals from design, fashion, visual arts, or other creative disciplines.
No previous technical skills are required. Curiosity, openness to experimentation, and an interest in hands-on and project-based work are essential.
The study plan follows a progressive path, guiding students step by step into the world of contemporary jewelry. The course alternates classroom sessions, workshop practice, and feedback moments, allowing students to gradually acquire cultural, methodological, and practical tools.
Contemporary Jewelry Culture & Languages
This module introduces jewelry as a cultural and design object. Through lectures and case studies, students explore symbolic meanings, the relationship between jewelry and the body, and key contemporary typologies.
Materials, Processes & Fundamental Jewelry Practices
Students gain familiarity with metal and its properties while experimenting with essential transformation processes. Guided exercises introduce fundamental workshop practices.
Design Methodology Applied to Jewelry
This module focuses on project development as a method. Students are guided from conceptual thinking to formal translation, alternating between classroom reflection and hands-on experimentation.
Research, Experimentation & Prototyping
Dedicated to applied research and three-dimensional experimentation, this module allows students to test and refine their ideas through prototypes. Trial and error become part of a controlled exploration process that shapes the final outcome.
Visiting Activities & Professional Context
The course includes visits or external meetings connected to the design world. These moments expand students’ perspectives and connect their work to contemporary professional practices.
Final Project Development
This concluding phase is dedicated to the realization of the final project. Students develop and complete one or more jewelry pieces aligned with their defined concept, supported by critiques and feedback sessions focused on formal quality, feasibility, and overall coherence.
Project Shooting & Communication
Students participate in a professional photo shoot and learn how to select and present images and materials effectively, developing the ability to communicate their project clearly and professionally.
Final Presentation
The course concludes with a final presentation of the developed project.
By the end of the course, you will have gained a foundational design methodology, a deeper understanding of contemporary jewelry as an expressive language, and the ability to develop a project from concept to realization.
