The Milan Design Week is a remarkable event for the industry and after four years was held in April and it was bigger than ever with more than 900 events and exhibitions.
Many IED Alumni were present in installations, exhibitions, and events during the most relevant week in Milan for the design industry both at Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone, the off-event of the week.
IED Milano alumnus Gabriele Chiave's work was present in different places all around Milan:
He conceived “The Domino Act” for Audi House Of Progress with Contravento, its own multidisciplinary collective project founded in 2022. The installation highlighted important topics such as circular economy, design and sustainability. After sunset, the installation interacted with sounds, music, and lights, underlying one unique message: “By aligning our actions with the rhythms of nature, we can create a sustainable and prosperous future” says the designer.
Some other projects designed by him under the umbrella Marcel Wanders -where he was working prior to 2022- were exhibited in Louis Vuitton, Lladró or Fendi.
Matteo Congiu, IED Cagliari and IED Milano alumnus, participated in the Salone del Mobile Milano with Bisu, the world’s first cork bed. On the first day of the fair, he received the A’Design Award for its sustainable yet functional proposal in the category of Furniture Design.
Nicolás Mosulén took part in Salone Satellite presenting a collection based on the relationship between craftsmanship and industry with a clear vision towards commercial objects that expand the contemporaneity of the culture.
"Under Design Lebanon" was an exhibition curated by IED Madrid alumnus Ghassan Salameh and hosted by the VIAFARINI Association, as part of the program by Isola Design : “ Nothing happens if nothing happens” at Isola-Porta Nuova District. The exhibition was supported by IED and displayed a realistic mapping and projection of the organisms still functioning in Lebanon during the social, political and economic crisis.
As winners of the fourth edition of the "ITmakES" competition by the Embassy of Italy in Madrid, two projects by IED Madrid Master alumni were showcased at the “Design Re-Evolution” exhibition by Interni Magazine, located in the courtyard of the University of Milan.
Miguel Egaña's project "¿UNA SILLA, UN JARRÓN?" explores the concept of a chair and how people perceive it. On the other hand, "AMA MA" by Artiz Antonlín pays tribute to the "rederas" - women who repair nets in Basque ports - a profession that is in danger of disappearing by creating a series of baskets made of biomaterials.
Yellowdot, the design studio & creative consultancy founded by alumni Bodin Hon & Dilara Kan, presented in Rossana Orlandi Gallery's RoCOLLECTIBLE DESIGN their new collection, 'Millstone' - Rotating Marble Tables.
The collection consists of sculptural coffee & side tables inspired by the Neolithic age, featuring a stationary base with a rotating top that can be easily moved. Millstone wants to be a celebration of the natural beauty of marble as a material.
Daniel Nikolovski, IED Milano alumnus, showcased “Sacred Wellbeing” at Superdesign Show in SuprestudioPiù, a collection that explores the ritual side of being together through glasses, trays, mirrors and stools. This year’s central theme at Superstudio Show was “Inspiration innovation imagination” which aimed to provide the latest in international design production and stimulate reflection through a visionary approach.
