From 23 to 26 February, within the framework of Erasmus+, IED Barcelona hosted the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) The Future(s) of the Mediterranean Food System, centered on imagining possible—and desirable—futures for the Mediterranean food system.
Students from a range of academic programmes (from Product Design and Interior Design to Architecture and Future Studies) from IED Barcelona, IED Roma, Università Federico II of Naples and University Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne – Faculty of Business, Administration and Law took part in the initiative.
After previously attending a series of introductory virtual sessions on their respective campuses, the students gathered in Barcelona for five days to carry out on-site workshops, visit leading institutions such as the Barcelona Culinary Hub and design project proposals addressing contemporary challenges in the food system. These solutions were required to be guided by criteria such as the protection of biodiversity, economic circularity and waste minimisation, social equity, and food sovereignty and security.
This new edition of the BIP proved to be a highly positive interdisciplinary and international collaborative experience, generating a dynamic working framework that fostered collaboration, creativity and critical thinking among students and faculty from the participating institutions.
