A complete journey through the subject: from strategic conception, through experimentation and technical development, to communication and project management
The Bachelor of Arts in Product Design trains critical and creative professionals, capable of responding to the changing needs of today's world through proposals that deal with circularity, inclusion or diversity.
It offers a global and contemporary view of the discipline, focusing on the creation of experiences through the design of services or objects, both physical and digital, with a positive impact on our lifestyle and relationship with the environment.
Along with strengthening your own professional identity, this course promotes the international dimension of your profile: it is a bilingual program, starting from the very first year with subjects taught in English, as well as the work experience and the Final Project.
Throughout four academic years, you will work on projects of all kinds, many of them in collaboration with companies. In addition, you will address a wide variety of areas (health, education, mobility, culture, etc.) and design proposals for furniture, lighting, accessories and wearables, packaging, contemporary crafts, textile design, services or digital products.
Thanks to the guidance of a teaching team of active professionals, you will be actively involved in your learning through practice in workshops. Among them, the Fab Lab, dedicated to prototyping, production and experimentation with different processes, tools and materials.
At the end of your training, you will have a portfolio that will be your best letter of introduction to the labour market, since it will not only include your projects, but also your evolution and your identity as a design professional.
A bilingual degree that trains you in all types and fields of product design from a sustainable, circular and ethical perspective.
The methodology, highly practical and experiential, integrates circular thinking, from materials to production systems, addressing all issues where design can help transform reality.
Your learning, which will gradually grow in complexity, will include both technical skills and knowledge linked to your specialization as well as soft skills and international projection, as the course is bilingual.
Much of your practical training will take place in the Fab Lab, where you will experiment with a variety of materials (wood, composites, metal, ceramics, textiles, biomaterials, new recycled materials, etc.) and techniques, combining the most traditional ones with 3D printing, laser cutting, digital milling (CNC), thermoforming or screen printing.
In addition to the practical work provided for in the curriculum, you can participate in the Design Labs, complementary activities to enhance soft skills or advanced techniques of your interest.
In the last academic year, you will carry out the curricular work experience, and prepare a Final Project where you can apply everything you have learnt, which will gain visibility on national and international platforms and contests.
For all those who want to channel their creativity and personal interests towards the design of objects and services that contribute to defining new scenarios, respectful of the planet and people.
This bilingual degree in Product Design responds to the great demand for professionals in the sector due to its impact on the positive transformation processes of our society and the environment.
You will acquire a very complete profile, since you will go through the entire design process, from strategic conception, through experimentation and technical development, to its communication and management. You will delve into the needs of the users, the context, the technology of the product, and the services and systems that encompass them.
In addition, you will boost your CV with a set of fundamental skills to face any future job: problem solving, sustainable thinking, teamwork, systemic thinking, leadership, strategic vision, communication and creativity.
Both during school hours and outside of them, you will have many workshops at your disposal where you can work on digital and technological processes, among which the Fab Lab stands out with its infrastructure and tools to develop a complete project, from start to finish.
All of this, at the IED Madrid, part of an international design education network and the only official school of the Madrid Design Festival. In recent years, the centre has won numerous prestigious awards: Best of the Year iF Design Talent Award, Delta ADI FAD Medals, Dubai Global Grad Show, Artsthread Global Graduation Show or James Dyson Award, among others.
Upon completion of your studies, you will leave with a portfolio that reflects your professional identity and your specific interests within product design. You will then be able to apply for a variety of job positions: working as a freelance professional or for studios, large service or strategic consulting companies, or specializing in digital products, technology or UX and VR.
