“Quiebra”, by David De la Calle Cruz, and “Iceberg”, by Emma García Rodrigo, students of the Postgraduate Programme in Wedding and Ceremony Dresses Design at IED Barcelona, are the two winning dresses of the 11th Bridal Scholarship for Talent by Gratacós. A 1,000 euros scholarship in haute-couture fabrics (500 for each student) awarded by the prestigious company.
“Quiebra” is part of the collection Opulencia rota, a proposal that starts from the Baroque in order to break free from it. The jury, made up of Gloria Casacuberta and Aida Molano from Gratacós; Albasarí Caro, director of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week; and Carla Ravert, a member of the bridal fair team, highlighted the design’s outstanding technical quality together with its perfect balance between theatricality and commercial appeal.
“Iceberg”, from the collection Cuento de invierno, stood out for its colouring (with a skirt using blue tones inspired by the colour of ice) and for the great creativity shown in the combination of the final fabrics.
Overall, the jury had to choose from fourteen proposals created by seven students using basic cotton fabric through the moulage technique and with an open theme.
The two winning designs will now be produced in their final fabric donated by Gratacós and will be exhibited throughout April in the window display of Gratacós (in the case of “Quiebra”) and at IED Barcelona (in the case of “Iceberg”).
