These are the words of the United Nations in their Sustainable Development Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
The challenge of providing innovative solutions to this major issue is the focus of the current edition of Challenge-Based Innovation (CBI), an initiative by the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) that brings together students from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), ESADE Business School and IED Barcelona each year.
Over the course of several months, participants work in multidisciplinary teams combining their knowledge of design, engineering and business to develop proposals for products and services that aim to solve complex social problems.
On this occasion, using Goal 13 as a starting point, the following challenges have been established, which will be worked on in groups by a total of 36 students:
– The future of forests and forestry
– Renewable and affordable energy
– Air quality and sustainable mobility
– Greenhouse gas emissions and agriculture
Under the umbrella of Fusion Point, a think tank that gathers the three participating academic institutions, the groups will apply their knowledge in project development from an entrepreneurial perspective, exercising their critical thinking skills and putting their ideas into practice through prototyping and testing.
We’ll keep you updated on the process!
