El IED Barcelona dona 5.000 euros a Arrels Fundació

Date

The amount is half of the prize that the Amici company presented to Product Design and Interior Design students for the design of new biodynamic capsule coffee machines

In another example of design focused on solidarity and social impact, IED Barcelona has made a donation of 5,000 euros to Arrels Fundació, a non-profit entity that works to care for the most vulnerable people who live on the streets of the Catalan capital.

The amount corresponds to half of the prize that the company Amici presented to second-, third- and fourth-year Product Design and Interior Design students in the 2023/2024 academic year as part of the project to design new coffee machines for its biodynamic coffee in capsules.

The students worked on four preliminary proposals and one final one, all creative and functional, with a minimalist design and clean aesthetic, taking into account the codes of beauty, sustainability and usability set by the company. They also carried out a pilot study to better understand the dynamics of interaction between users and a coffee machine, applying the conclusions to improve the resulting design. The project was presented on 17 May at the IED Florence facilities.

On 13 November, the same students, accompanied by Raffaella Perrone, Director of IED Barcelona’s Design School, and Massimo Saggesse, representing AMICI, personally handed over the cheque to Merche de Hériz, a volunteer from the Arrels Fundació Communications team.
