Solutions to boost the circular economy in the automotive industry and regenerate ecosystems by uniting science, creativity, and technology

Multidisciplinary teams made up of students from the Master in Design Management program at IED Barcelona, Esade, and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) have developed innovative proposals to transform the automotive industry towards a circular economy and support the regeneration of forests and rural economies in the Philippines.
The initiatives, created within the framework of the twelfth edition of the Challenge-Based Innovation (CBI) program, promoted by IdeaSquare and the CERN Innovation Department, have responded this time to real-world challenges posed by SEAT and MAD Travel in collaboration with Ateneo de Manila University.
Among the solutions presented are new models for closed-loop plastic recycling in the automotive sector, accessible reconditioning services to extend the lifespan of used vehicles, participatory tools for monitoring and managing 4,000 hectares of ancient forests in Zambales, and technological platforms to strengthen circular and drought-resilient agriculture.
CarSight, a small encrypted device that stores a vehicle's complete history under the owner's control. The solution brings transparency to the used car market, allows drivers to obtain higher resale value through verifiable records, and provides manufacturers with real-time data on usage and repairs, improving decision-making regarding reconditioning and extending vehicle lifespan.
EyeFoirest is a system that uses satellite surveillance and real-time cameras to generate an online digital platform and a 3D physical map that serves as a guide for communities to understand the health status of their ancestral forests in Zambales.
