With the aim of Barcelona continuing to be a benchmark for creative industries, the speakers agreed on the need for the city to continue its commitment to daring and innovative urban planning and design

IED Barcelona partnered with Barcelona Global to host the seventh session of the fifth edition of the “Barcelona 2044” city leadership programme. The initiative aims to train young talent in acquiring knowledge about Barcelona by visiting companies, science and research centres, start-ups, etc., where they can talk to experts and develop future proposals.

On this occasion, IED’s Point Two building hosted the roundtable discussion entitled “The Barcelona of Design and Architecture” on February 16. Andrea Marchesi, IED director, Isabel Roig, CEO of Barcelona Centre de Disseny (BCD), and Lucia Millet, co-founder of Cierto Estudio – all three Barcelona Global partners – discussed the city’s global challenges over the next few years from the perspective of creativity and design with the programme’s 36 young participants. The session was chaired by Albert Closas, director of the TV3 programme Valor Afegit.

Among other topics, and with the aim of Barcelona continuing to be a benchmark for creative industries, the speakers agreed on the need for the city to continue its commitment to daring and innovative urban planning and design, in which the recovery and renewal of green spaces and sustainable mobility are fundamental pillars.

The experts also noted the presence of teams of designers in key sectors such as science and technology, health, finance, insurance, etc. as an opportunity to create very strong synergies in the near future.

Finally, as regards the threat of artificial intelligence to the creative industries, they indicated its lack of critical thinking as one of its greatest weaknesses.
