IED Barcelona student Maria Therekova has just won a Gold Laus in the Audiovisual category with “Ugly Manifesto”, a project that explores the question: “Why do designers like ugly graphics?” Her piece, created using motion graphics techniques to generate a dynamic visual narrative with which to transmit the origin of the attraction for seemingly ugly aesthetics, has seen her crowned the winner in the 55th edition of the ADG Laus Awards for Graphic Design and Visual Communication, the most prestigious awards in the field of graphic design in Spain.
The young designer collected her award on 19 June during the ADG Laus Night ceremony, held at Cinemes Aribau, accompanied by Mery Glez, Head of Visual Arts at IED Barcelona.
The ceremony was also attended by three other IED alumni finalists: Tomiris Aimaganbetova, Motion Graphics and Video graduate (2024), who was also shortlisted for the award in the Audiovisual category with 'Tamaq'; Michele
El Khoury, Motion Graphics and Video graduate (2024) – also a contender in the Audiovisual (Final Degree Project) category with the project ‘Force Majeure’; and
Charlotte Páez Bastardo, Graphic Design graduate (2024), shortlisted for the Student Contribution (Final Degree Project) category with ‘Voces Encendidas’. All of them received an “In Book” mention.
Last but not least, another IED Barcelona alumnus, Xabier Isasti (Studio Sin Título 1), has been awarded a Gold Laus in the category Visual Identity for Small Businesses with a project for the chocolatier Joan Escribà.
Congratulations!
