The Master approaches interior design as an interdisciplinary design language, where space, communication, performance and multimedia practices intertwine to shape new relationships between people, environments and ever-evolving contexts
The Master in Interior Design is designed to support and guide professionals in developing a design practice capable of creating conscious, sustainable and inclusive interior spaces, generating multisensory experiences that respond to the needs of contemporary living.
In a rapidly changing landscape, where technology, wellbeing and ethical responsibility are reshaping the field, the programme addresses the growing demand for specialists able to design environments aligned with the values of brands, places and the communities that inhabit and experience them.
The course integrates creativity, digital innovation and social awareness, preparing highly qualified and competitive profiles for the most dynamic sectors of contemporary interior design, in line with the needs of national and international production systems.
A cross-disciplinary Master’s Program to design fluid, empathetic and inclusive concepts adapting to a new way of thinking and shaping society
The Master in Interior Design supports students in developing a conscious design methodology, capable of addressing the complexity of contemporary projects through interdisciplinary research, analysis and experimentation.
The programme is grounded in a cultural framework rooted in Italian design, enriched by the contribution of professionals active in international contexts and by the development of real projects in collaboration with brands, institutions and companies, fostering a direct connection between studio-based learning and professional practice.
The methodology proposes an evolution of design thinking, integrating human-centered approaches with new technology-driven workflows prompted by artificial intelligence. These tools expand possibilities for analysis, simulation and experimentation, encouraging more flexible and interdisciplinary design processes.
The learning experience is primarily studio-based and organised around project briefs that are preferably real and defined in dialogue with external clients. Students are supported in developing complete design proposals that can become meaningful case studies for the construction of a professional portfolio.
The thesis project represents the final moment of synthesis and assessment of the acquired competencies, with support from the didactic coordinator.
The Master’s Program in Interior Design at IED Milano is intended for graduates in Architecture, Interior Architecture and Interior Design. However, applicants from different backgrounds or experiences related to this field are also welcome. At the beginning of the Master, the focus will be on acquiring basic cultural knowledge of design thinking, with special attention to methods and operations -for example, how to move forward once a brief is received and how to approach a project as a whole.
What brings together all those who join this Master's Program is unconventional thinking and a far-reaching, pioneering understanding of the term designer, where a digital approach is also part of the equation.
This Master is for students who want to experience a full year of learning that will expand further their cultural boundaries. It is also for those who feel passionate about putting their ideas and skills into play, working with companies on some new, groundbreaking projects.
The Master’s Program in Interior Design at IED Milano pays close attention to market demands and provides an overall perspective on both strategic and operational aspects of a project. Our multidisciplinary approach will bring subsidiary -albeit necessary- knowledge into the classroom to help you better shape your profile and move with more awareness into your future career path.
Coursework within the Master’s Program in Interior Design at IED Milano will provide you with all the skills required to approach the projects co-developed with some of our partner brands and companies. This knowledge base will also help you develop more awareness of how to move into your future career as an interior designer in the contemporary job market.
All of these projects will involve simulations of authentic professional work experience, organised into briefs, project development and overall presentation.
