Turin, a city with a unique charm, a world-class benchmark for a new culture of food and research into environmental sustainability, is the centre of excellence and innovation in the automotive field.

In this context, in line with the themes that characterize the knowledge and research of the territory, IED Turin offers you an education path, lasting three weeks, which is designed to make your curriculum more competitive, enriching it with new skills.

Therefore, our course provides you with an introduction to the basic elements and tools for a future car designer. Also, you will have an overview of contemporary trends, industrial challenges and a deep focus on the car designer’s professional role. The course will furthermore give you the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and intellectual abilities to design new vehicles based on a clear understanding of proportion, volume and surface design principles. You will have the opportunity to talk with professionals in the field and experience this career path through practical training and guided tours and visits.

Information to decide

This course is intended to stimulate creative thinking while allowing you to develop technical skills in the car design field.
Following an introduction to the automobile industry from an historical point of view, you will acquire the technical skills to correctly visualize a concept and to explore an object from different points of observation.

You will understand and learn the techniques of volume and perspective in design which will allow you to develop ‘creative concepts’ and translate your own ideas in car design projects. After a general overview of the automotive engineering, you will move forward into modelling lab and, together with your classmates, you will produce your car design model. Projects will be subject to groups and teachers’ critiques.

The course is a synergy between theoretical lessons, visits to companies and meetings with specialised professionals of the automotive environment. Visits are not passive learning experiences. You will be tasked with diverse assignments for each visit and you are expected to engage with the speakers and tutors as part of your classwork and overall experience.

From Monday to Thursday during the 1st and 2nd week and from Monday to Friday during the 3rd week, on a full time basis (morning and afternoon) the course has a duration of 75 hours spread over 3 weeks.

This is an introductory level program, designed for creative, flexible, open-minded students or professionals from other fields who want to learn and take on challenges. People who are interested in the world of automotive design and have no prior knowledge or experience in the discipline. Skills such as drawing or sketching can be useful even if not mandatory. Applicants need to show strong motivation and the ability to work in groups.
