In an edition marked by new developments, including its relocation to the new Port Vell Marina venue and a programme of parallel activities, the 37th edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion has once again brought together leading national fashion brands, emerging talent and industry experts. And again, IED has had a strong presence, recognised as an outstanding breeding ground for designers, with Alumni Guillermo Justicia, Eñaut Barruetabeña and the brand REPARTO presenting their latest collections.
Guillermo Justicia (Master in Fashion Design at IED Barcelona) presented “Viscerum”, a proposal in which the emotions that defined his previous work – “VOID” – continue to be explored, now from a more internal and human perspective. The garments reflect the tension between fragility and strength through structures that follow the body and its movement. In addition, the young designer’s brand also took part in BFF Brands – Up Close.
A graduate in Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design from IED Barcelona in 2017 (and currently a lecturer at the same campus), Eñaut presented 20 looks from his new proposal, “Ego dissolution”, in which each represents an emotional map reflecting a process of transformation and personal growth. Featuring garments inspired by hockey aesthetics and a colour palette of green, black and grey, the silhouette plays with controlled volumes and padded elements, acting as a visual metaphor for strengthening without losing delicacy. In terms of materials, the collection maintains a commitment to sustainability, using responsibly sourced fabrics and giving new life to existing deadstock.
Meanwhile, REPARTO — the brand founded by Margil Peña and Ana Viglione, Programme Leaders of the Master in Fashion Design at IED Madrid — presented “BLACKLOT”, a collection that takes the concept of dreams in its broadest sense as its conceptual axis. Featuring Victorian and Art Deco silhouettes, oscillating between the romantic and the ironic, it employs techniques such as upcycling, object repetition and moulage to reinforce the experimental and conscious dimension of the garments.
Commemorative audiovisuals, professional juries and IED-backed moderators
Also within the framework of the fashion week, Valeriya Anushkevich, a third-year Motion Graphics & Video student at IED Barcelona, edited the video marking the 45th anniversary of Lola Casademont, which was screened on the 080’s displays.
In addition, Julia Weems, Director of the Fashion School at IED Barcelona, took part in the European Designer Fashion Summit, held on 13 and 14 October, where she moderated the panel “Education and emerging talent: the role of new generations in European designer fashion”.
Finally, Anna Masclans Gibert, an alumnus of IED Barcelona and current Academic Coordinator of the BA in Fashion Design, will be part of the professional jury selecting the brand invited to the 080 Barcelona Fashion pop-up store at the Rec.0 festival, taking place from 6 to 9 May. The winning name will be announced on 27 April.
