The speakers paid homage to Elsa Peretti and her artistic relationship with Halston

A discussion about the pairing of fashion and jewellery at the colloquium “Peretti & Halston: Beyond Design” held at Barcelona’s Teatre Akadèmia. Four guests of the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation, including Pilar Pasamontes, scientific director of IED Barcelona’s Fashion Department, examined the scope of the legacy of the artistic collaboration between the jewellery designer Elsa Peretti and Halston, such as the iconic bottle of teardrop-shaped perfume or the historic fashion show “The Battle of Versailles”.

Organised by the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation-Catalonia Delegation on 10 October, the evening began with the screening of the documentary Halston (Frédéric Tcheng, 2019) and then moved on to the event presented by Guido Torlonia, artistic director of the Teatre Akadèmia.

Those participating along with Pasamontes included Stefano Palumbo, member of the Board of Directors of the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation and emcee of the evening; Lesley Frowick, Halston’s niece, director of the Halston Personal Archives and founder of the non-profit With Love Halston Scholarship Foundation, and Carlos Martorell, public relations and journalist. The speakers paid homage to the memory of the figure of Elsa Peretti and her artistic relationship with Halston.

Peretti was a pioneering woman in art and philanthropy who arrived in Barcelona at the end of the sixties after having studied in Rome, Milan and Switzerland, and before her time in New York. With a look that was heavily influenced by nature and materials, she created her inaugural piece of jewellery in a goldsmith premises located in the Gràcia neighbourhood of Barcelona. Internationally recognised for her contribution to jewellery design, her collection has been sold exclusively in all stores of the historic British firm Tiffany & Co. since 1974.
