On June 20, the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Madrid experienced the celebration of its Avant Défilé — a graduation fashion show that, for the first time, opened the runway to all students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design that wanted to present their proyects. The event was held at our iconic Palacio de Altamira, in the heart of Madrid, and served as a prelude to the Fashion Show that will take place on September 16th as part of the official Madrid Fashion Week.

The public had the opportunity to get an up-close look at the students’ final projects, which were also exhibited in a showroom format alongside proposals from the Fashion and Pattern-Making Vocational Program, offering a more comprehensive view of the conceptual, technical, and creative work behind each collection.

The Avant Défilé was framed within the concept of "Connected Knowledge," a pedagogical proposal that encourages the connection between tradition and technology, critical thinking and innovation, artificial intelligence and manual craftsmanship. This theme was strongly reflected in the collections, which explored new ways of designing through sustainability, material experimentation, and the integration of artisanal processes with digital languages.

One of the most anticipated moments of the day was the selection of the 12 projects that will be showcased in September as representatives of IED Madrid at Madrid es Moda. Among the selected designers are Raquel Aldaz Casalo, Guillermo Sastre Fernández, Miguel Conde García-Mochales, Maitane Carmen Somet García, Xinyuan Zheng, Alejandra Elizondo Díaz, Casilda Ortiz Baselga, Natalia Arroyas Peregrín, Uxía Gómez Ortega, Paula Jiménez Párraga, Pedro Díaz García, and Alejandro Úbeda Callejas.

The professional jury in charge of the selection included prominent industry figures such as Pepa Bueno, David Alarcón, Leticia García, Ernesto Naranjo, and Federico Antelo. Additionally, an academic jury — composed of Luis Berrendero, Daría Ferreiro, and industry experts María Elena Calpe, Eva Maldonado, Marta García, Cristina Piña, Juanjo Gómez, and Hugo Pinazo — evaluated the full range of projects on display.

This first Avant Défilé by IED Madrid has proven to be much more than a graduation show: it has become a true platform for emerging design talent, a bridge between education and industry, and a celebration of contemporary creativity. The designers selected for September are poised to set the tone for the future of Spanish fashion.
