The second chapter of the three-year project Ti Vorrei Dire (I Would Like to Tell You), developed in collaboration with Gallerie d’Italia – Intesa Sanpaolo, invites reflection on the power of the image as a political and conscious act — one capable of giving voice and presence to what often remains unseen

As part of the three-year project Ti Vorrei Dire, carried out by IED – Istituto Europeo di Design in collaboration with Gallerie d’Italia – Intesa Sanpaolo, The Searchlights was presented on November 6, 2025, in the Immersive Room of Gallerie d’Italia – Turin.

Following The Dreamers, which gave voice to the desires and inner visions of those in their twenties, The Searchlights turned its gaze outward, inviting students from IED’s Photography courses in Milan, Rome and Turin, and from the Visual Communication Design course in IED Florence, to explore how the image can become a gesture of awareness and responsibility toward others.

To mark the launch, the documentary film Pure Unknown – Sconosciuti puri (2023) by Valentina Cicogna and Mattia Colombo, with cinematography by Jacopo Loiodice, was screened. The film, dedicated to the work of Professor Cristina Cattaneo and the LABANOF – Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and Odontology at the University of Milan, offered a powerful reflection on the meaning of identity and memory.

The screening was followed by a conversation with Cristina Cattaneo, the filmmakers, and the director of photography — a dialogue that deepened the project’s central theme: the ability of the gaze to transform into a political and poetic act, revealing what too often remains in the shadows.
