Photography as a tool for reading the present and giving voice to a new generation.

The Searchlights is the second chapter of the three-year programme Ti vorrei dire, born of the collaboration between Istituto Europeo di Design and le Gallerie d’Italia – Torino of Intesa Sanpaolo.

The project originates as an investigation into the urgencies of the present through the perspective of a new generation.
Faced with this reality, the viewpoint from which one observes becomes crucial: the title The Searchlights evokes the image of a beam of light that makes visible what remains at the margins.
In this sense, photography brings to the surface what demands attention and becomes almost a political act, a tool for awareness and for taking a stance in deciding who is given a voice and how.
The works question what concerns and mobilize younger generations, tracing a complex map of contemporary urgencies: from the ecological and climate crisis to power dynamics, and the existential conditions of living today.

The Searchlights brings together a series of photographic works developed by students from the Photography courses of IED campuses in in Turin, Milan and Rome, alongside a graphic design project created by students from the Visual Communication Design course at IED Florence.

The final outputs were presented and exhibited during the event held on April 10, 2026, at Gallerie d’Italia – Torino, as part of EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival, creating a shared moment of dialogue and reflection on the present.
